Summary

Background

Several colleagues have mentioned that they had difficulties with working with SEN pupils, so we conducted a survey to investigate if there were other cases like them. According to the survey conducted among members of our association, the number of SEN pupils who learn Spanish as a second foreign language is more than 100 and the number is increasing. It is a great success, but it is also a challenge: they've never finished a course that could prepare them to work SEN pupils. The number of schools, teachers and SEN pupils showed us the necessity of professional education in order to successfully deliver knowledge and follow the progress of all the pupils. A teacher should successfully transmit certain knowledge and values (equality, mutual respect) and to do so, he/she needs to be prepared. In order to have a quality class dedicated to everyone and suitable for every single pupil, teachers have to finish a course that will help them acquire and develop necessary competencies.

Objectives

We seek to improve teaching competencies and prepare them to work with pupils on inclusion. Those competencies include: identifying special needs, preparing and implementing didactic materials independently. This project can have a great impact on our society in a way it supports inclusion because inclusion implies equality and mutual respect. Inclusion is not just having a SEN pupil who is sitting at the school desk. It means the SEN pupil participates in the class and works with other pupils. It is necessary to have skilled and prepared teachers in educational institutions in Serbia. Thanks to the course and other tasks (preparing didactic material), teachers will organize workshops in order to spread their knowledge among colleagues. Our goal is to create and maintain a database with didactic materials for work with SEN pupils which will contain ideas for inclusive classroom activities for face-to-face classes as well as for virtual classes.

Activities

The activities that will be implemented are:
1. Course IDENTIFYING BARRIERS TO LEARNING – A SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS MASTERCLASS COURSE in Barcelona Spain, organized by ShipCon, dedicated to educators and foreign language teachers.
2. Preparing didactic portfolio which will contain didactic material to work with pupils on inclusion, including activities, presentations, articles, quizzes, etc.
3. Posting didactic material on the web page that will be dedicated to this project.
4. Workshops prepared by teachers after the mobility in different cities and schools.
5. Visiting classes in order to monitor activities and implementation of the acquired competencies to work with pupils on inclusion.
6. Webinar for the teachers
7. Preparation of the accredited seminar

Impact

Our Association expects to have:
1. Competent teachers to work with pupils on inclusion.
2. Better quality of Spanish language classes with pupils on inclusion
3. Web page with didactic material for the inclusive classroom (live and virtual).
4. More comfortable atmosphere for all pupils in the classroom
5. Erase borders, limits or differences between pupils and between teachers that could have existed due to a lack of education in this specific field
6. Create/teach/apply Spanish for all interested pupils, and develop so called InclusivE (Inclusive + Español)
7. Wider perspective and more opportunities for teachers
